The city of Zangilan was built at a distance of 4 kilometers on the right bank of the Okchu River, from a place called Cheshemogzlu to the south to the lime wells.

Zangilan was occupied by Armenian armed forces in 1993. After the glorious victory of our army in the Second Karabakh War, according to the trilateral statement signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Russian Federation, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on November 10, 2020, the Aghdam region came under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces on November 20, 2020.

The total area projected for the settlement of 1631 people (408 families) in Zangilan city is 111.29 hectares.

The design work for the village will be carried out in stages. In the first phase, 193 private houses will be built for the relocation of 830 people.
